WORCESTER residents reached for their shorts and T-shirts at the weekend as they saw a return to summery weather.

Temperatures hit 21.2C (70F) in the city on Sunday and were a warming 19.5C (67F) on Saturday - well above the average for October.

According to Worcester News weather expert Paul Damari the average temperature in October should be 16C (61F), but spells of warmer sunny weather are not unusual for this time of the year.

“It was a beautiful weekend - especially Sunday,” he said.

“We often get these fine spells of weather at this time of the year. I have known some years when it has got into the low 80sF in October.

"It is what I call a little St Luke’s summer. There is a high feel-good factor when the weather is like this.”

St Luke’s Day is October 18 and is often associated with a fine spell of weather.

Mr Damari added that there could be more spells of warm sunny weather to come.

He said apart from a few days of wet weather at the beginning of October, the past month had been largely dry.

Today is expected to be mainly dry with one or light showers, while the evening and early Wednesday could see some more light rain.

But during the day on Wednesday, Mr Damari forecasts it will brighten up with the north of England getting most of any rain.

Then it is back to fine, sunny and dry weather, although a little cooler with temperatures around 14C - 15C (57.2F - 59F) on Thursday and Friday.
