THE city’s MP has promised to support a dragon boat club in their quest to find a permanent base.
Mike Foster spent time with at Worcester Dragon Boat Club on Sunday to see how the club works.
The 60 members use a portable building to store equipment but need somewhere to change and get warm, particularly during the winter.
“Worcester Dragon Boat Club deserves to be supported,” Mr Foster said.
He suggested using the RNIB boathouse in Bromwich parade, which is next door to where the club currently stores its equipment.
“I know the building is not currently being used and that there is an asbestos issue to be resolved, but unless something is done the building will simply fall into disrepair and become an eyesore along the river,” the Labour MP said.
“At a time when the cricket club is planning a new development along the river and the city council wants to see the river better used to boost tourism, using the boathouse is a no-brainer.”
Club membership includes 25 youngsters from across the city.
“This city should be encouraging this commitment and at the very least rewarding them with a place to get warm after a tough workout on the river,” he said.
