ANGRY residents have called the roll-out of a new fortnightly bin collection service confused and chaotic.
People living in Sale Green, near Droitwich, and parts of Tibberton said their bins have been left overflowing with waste because binmen have not visited on the scheduled collection days.
There has also been an apparent over-delivery of bins in parts of Hadzor, Droitwich, while one family in Littleworth, near Worcester, said piles of rubbish and recycling are building up on their doorstep because they still have not had any of their new bins delivered.
Bob Johnson, of Sale Green, said: “It’s been chaotic. They seem to have got all mixed up with the days and what they are supposed to collect on those days. It’s a bit of a shambles.”
Mr Johnson said the first recycling collection due in Sale Green more than two weeks ago never arrived until residents called Wychavon District Council. But even when binmen eventually did visit the area his house on the Common was missed out, meaning he will have to wait until Thursday for his green bin to be emptied.
Lucy Walters said new bins have not yet been delivered to her mid-terraced house in Littleworth, even though all of her neighbours have got them.
Mrs Walters, of the Hidage, said rubbish is piling up on her doorstep because the binmen do not collect waste in bags.
“It’s a bit of a laugh,” she said. “We are quite eco-friendly so it’s kind of rubbing our noses in it.”
She said despite at least two calls to the council over recent weeks binmen have failed to collect her rubbish.
Wychavon’s leader Paul Middlebrough said he was aware of pockets of problems, but added he thought the scheme concerning 12,000 homes had been a success on the whole.
He apologised to all who had been inconvenienced and said the council was working hard with its partners to rectify the problems.
He added anyone missing wheelie bins should have them delivered by Wednesday.
