A TEENAGE driver has died and three others are seriously injured after a car smash in Worcestershire.

The driver, believed to be a young man in his teens, was pronounced dead at Worcestershire Royal Hospital following the crash on Sherridge Road, Leigh Sinton.

The incident, near Malvern, happened at 11.23am yesterday when a black Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a silver Land Rover Discovery.

The driver and passengers in the Corsa had to be cut from the wreckage of the car by fire crews and the driver was airlifted to Worcestershire Royal where he was pronounced dead.

The three passengers, two men and a woman, were also taken to the Royal with “serious injuries” and one, who was critically injured, has been transferred to the Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry for further treatment.

The elderly driver of the Land Rover suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police did not believe he required hospital treatment.

The road was closed in both directions immediately after the crash but was re-opened at around 4.30pm.

It was believed the Corsa was travelling in the direction of Leigh Sinton and the Land Rover in the direction of Smith End Green when the incident happened.

Alec Mackie, of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters arrived at the scene at around 11.40am and it took about half an hour to free the Corsa driver and the passengers.

The family of the dead man and the coroner have been informed of the situation although formal identification has yet to take place.

A date for the post-mortem has yet to be confirmed.
