So, your parents have been nagging you for the last few weeks to get a job. However, this would involve getting dressed, being polite and pleasant to people and going out of the house, which you really can’t be dealing with.
How do you get out of the situation? You use the teenager’s number one excuse, ‘I can’t be bothered.’ But as the weeks fly by, the situation still remains…you still haven’t got a job.
Eventually, your parents quit nagging you about the job, and continue with their own lives, whilst leaving you at home all day over the holidays. But what is there to do at home? Yes, there are the usuals- watch TV or go on the Internet. But it can all start to get a bit tedious after watching countless episodes of Jeremy Kyle and Bargain Hunt week after week, or chatting to your mates on MSN or Facebook.
Therefore, how can you survive boredom? Stuck for ideas? Perhaps the suggestions below may help you kick boredom once and for all.
- Something involving a lot of effort, so only do this if you can be bothered and are really bored. Tidy your room or rearrange things in it, which would probably be a first.
- When it’s raining, pick your favourite five films and watch them back to back.
- Perhaps text your mates to come round for the day. You could cook for them, hang out in the garden, provide drinks for them. If the weather’s warm enough, why not have a BBQ?
- Something for the girls, a sleepover! Invite your girlfriends round for an evening filled of chick flicks, marshmallows and melted chocolate, creating your own dance routines, creating your own pizzas and karaoke fun! It will certainly be a night to remember!
- Be creative! Find and cut out photos of yourself and important events, which have happened in your life so far, and create a collage (Wow!) · Organise a special themed party at yours, hippy themed, 80’s fever, Hollywood stars, future occupations, the list is endless.
- Invite some of your ‘actor’ friends round, and construct a movie!
- Turn your garden into the town’s water world! Get the old, plastic slide you had when you were a kid and a big, plastic sheet, cover it with washing up liquid, and you’ve got yourself your very own super slippy slide! Fill the paddling pool with water and keep the washing up liquid handy for a foam party later!
- For the girls, customize some of your old clothes, turning them into the coolest kit in town! Perhaps you could be the new Stella McCartney!
- Something for the boys, invite your mates round, and have a five a side football match in the back garden. However, be prepared for a subsequent trip to the local garden centre to replenish the multiple broken plants.
- If you are musically talented, why not compose your own song?
- Why not get creative in the kitchen and bake a cake. It will certainly earn you brownie points with the parents. Be sure to wash up!
- Categorize your CD, DVD, Magazine and Books into alphabetical order, type or genre. Whatever takes your fancy!
So, there you have it. Some super top tips for surviving boredom. If the selection above doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps getting a job after all isn’t such a bad idea!
