AN action-packed day is being planned by West Mercia Constabulary to raise money for servicemen injured in action.

Parachute display teams, helicopters and bomb disposal displays are being planned for the event, being organised by West Mercia police’s dog section, on Sunday, October 5.

It is hoped the event at Hindlip Hall, near Worcester, will raise £50,000 for the Help for Heroes charity. Organiser Inspector Al Short said: “We want to raise as much money as we can for the wounded military personnel and their families in the current conflicts. Every person involved is in on their day off so there is not one working officer.”

The Red Devils parachute display team will drop in along with the force helicopter, county air ambulance and an Apache helicopter. Visitors will be able to see an RAF Sea King, army helicopters including a Merlin, Griffin, Linx and Gazelle, a display by the bomb disposal squad and a mock car chase involving armed police, force helicopter and police dogs. They will also be able to try an army climbing wall, paint ball ranges and tanks.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will be re-creating a crash scene and holding a mock rescue operation. There will also be a smoke tent for youngsters to learn what to do in the event of a fire. The show will go ahead in all conditions except low cloud.

The day is from noon to 4.30pm and entry costs £20 per car.

Tickets are by advanced booking only, although pedestrians will be allowed entry on the day for £5.
