A JILTED boyfriend who threw bleach at his ex-partner has been given two community orders.
Sean Dempsey, of Worcester, appearing before the city’s magistrates on Wednesday, had already admitted actual bodily harm at a previous hearing. The reformed heroin addict had gone to the home of his former partner Samantha Skipp, in Westminster Road, Ronkswood, in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, following a row over the phone.
Dempsey, who had moved out of the house in January, had called up to arrange to visit the couple’s child but ended up in an argument over her being in a new relationship with another man. Later that night, she heard Dempsey outside kicking the garden fence and shouting.
Douglas Marshall, prosecuting, said: “She went to the window and felt something hit her face. She quickly went to the bathroom to wash out her eye. Fortunately, there was no lasting damage.” Dempsey had thrown bleach contained in a juice bottle.
He was later arrested and in interview claimed to have thrown the bottle to attract Miss Skipp’s attention, and had no intention of injuring her. But at a hearing to establish the facts of the case held in August, magistrates ruled the 30-year-old had thrown the bottle deliberately.
Mark Sheward, defending, said that Dempsey, of Ambleside Drive, Warndon, had taken the break-up of the couple’s five-year relationship “very badly.” He said: “He began self-harming, drinking to excess and using drugs again.” Dempsey had already pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon.
Officers found a lock knife in his pocket and he was arrested. Dempsey was given two-year community supervision orders for both offences, to run concurrently, and was ordered to complete a domestic abuse course. He was also ordered to pay Miss Skipp £145 compensation and £140 costs.
