FIREFIGHTERS and police rushed to a canal after a moped and helmet were seen floating in the water.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the canal off Salwarp Road in Droitwich at 7.30am today.
Alec Mackie, spokesman for the service, said: “A passer-by had spotted a moped and a moped rider’s helmet, the helmet was floating and the moped was half submerged in the canal.”
Fire crews launched an inflatable boat and searched the canal bed retrieving the helmet and bike.
There were concerns someone may have been riding the moped when it went into the canal, but this was not the case.
A police spokesman confirmed the green Kymco Filly scooter had been stolen on Tuesday, September 2, from Lower Dinch Hope in Shropshire.
They are appealing for witnesses and if anyone saw the vehicle being dumped in the canal they are asked to contact police on 08457 444 888, quoting 57S/020908.
Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
