PEOPLE in Worcestershire looking to make savings or struggling to pay their water bills are being reminded of their options.

Help available for householders includes having a water meter fitted, or for people finding it particularly difficult to meet payments, applying for a grant, according to Severn Trent Water’s bosses.

Martin Kane, the company’s customer relations director, said: “If you are struggling to pay your water bill, whatever the reason may be, you do have options.

“Firstly you can set up a payment plan. It means you can pay bit by bit over a period of time, whether through direct debit or using a water card at local Pay Point outlets.”

He urged people to get in touch if concerned about meeting their water charges.

Bill-payers who do not use a large amount of water could opt to have a meter fitted and can apply online or find out more by logging on to stwater.co.uk Alternatively, people can call 08457 090646 to request a Fitting Meters Free leaflet.

For those already on a meter but finding it hard to cover bills, Severn Trent has a capped charge tariff called WaterSure.

Mr Kane said: “If a member of your household is in receipt of benefits and has a medical condition that makes you use more water, or you are in receipt of benefits and have three or more children under 19, then you may be able to apply for this scheme.”

More information about the tariff is available by calling 08457 500500.

Further support is available from independent body the Severn Trent Trust Fund which hands out grants to people eligible for help with their charges, paying grants directly to the supplier.
