FESTIVALS can often be fertile ground where talent flourishes overnight.

A bit like mushrooms, really – there was nothing on the lawn when you went to bed and next morning the turf is groaning under the weight of fungal discs.

This is how I feel about Worcester’s next – cue Alan Freeman moment – smash hitsters Ben Humphrey and Simon Renshaw. Believe me, these chaps pose a very real threat to rib cages everywhere.

I caught the comic coves’ act at the Swan Theatre during the Worcester Festival and must say that I was extremely impressed with every single aspect of their act.

Good sketches, tight writing and not a dud line to be seen – what a welcome breath of fresh air in the fuggy muddle that is so much British comedy these days.

The former King’s School lads also refuse to shy away from areas that might offend the more hair trigger politicallycorrect among us, which also makes a refreshing change. Mark my words, Humphrey and Renshaw are destined for greatness.
