A £250,000 refurbishment of a Worcester school’s kitchens is complete.

RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School (RGSAO) celebrated the opening of the new catering facility with a cake-baking master-class.

The old RGSAO kitchen was awarded a top five-star rating in March this year by Worcester City Council environmental health services. However, the school still decided to make a further catering investment.

The kitchen will cater for almost 1,000 pupils daily and boasts improved access, walk-in fridge and freezer, hot plate facilities, and improved hygiene and health and safety.

“Getting the five-star award was an excellent achievement for a school kitchen and Eurest Catering, but the new facilities have truly blown the old kitchen out of the water and in my opinion set the example nationally of how healthy school catering should be undertaken,” said Brigitte Keen, Eurest Catering manager at RGSAO.

Commander Mike Sime, RGSAO bursar and project manager of the school development, said: “The new facilities in the kitchen are a great example of what we are about as a school and echo the quality finish which will be seen across the whole site.”
