A TRUE labour of love will be on display in Worcestershire when Honeybrook House Cottage opens its gardens.

Gerald Majumdar has devoted countless hours over the past five years converting the wild grasslands around his home into a beautiful two-acre garden which has featured on the BBC TV’s Open Gardens.

Now open for all the world to see as part of the National Gardens Scheme, Honeybrook House has already attracted hundreds of visitors through a series of events this year.

Mr Majumdar said: “The property has actually been in my family since 1970, but the garden was neglected in the 1990s and went quite wild.”

“In 2003 we decided to start working on the garden around the cottage, but we had no intention of doing it all. It just grew and grew.”

Now visitors can see a variety of different, beautifully maintained areas, including a cottage garden, a wildlife pond, herbaceous borders, woodland and a long tree-lined walk.

There is also an unusual prairie garden filled with grasses and prairie lilies, to remind Mr Majumdar of the years he spent living in Canada. Much of the garden lies on a slope, and has fantastic views across the Worcestershire countryside.

September should be a particularly good time to visit, as the garden is filled with many lateblooming flowers including rudbeckias, heleniums and crocosmias.

The garden will be open from noon until 5pm on Sunday, September 7.

Admission is £3.50 for adults, with children admitted for free.

Visitors are also welcome by appointment other times in groups of 10 or more.
