A 22-YEAR-OLD woman arrested in connection with the discovery of a newborn baby’s body from Worcester found in a recycling plant has been ruled out of the police investigation.

The woman, from the West Midlands, was detained on Friday after the baby’s body was found at a site in Cambridgeshire last Wednesday.

The waste came from one of 7,000 homes in Worcester.

Police have now renewed appeals for the baby’s mother to come forward over concerns about her well-being.

Detective Inspector Adrian Todd, who is heading the investigation, said: “The woman has been eliminated from our enquires, but is bailed in connection with other possible offences outside the West Mercia Constabulary area.

“We are, however, increasingly anxious to speak to the mother of the baby girl whose body we believe was transported to the Peterborough location via a sorting centre in Bromsgrove, after being placed in Worcester’s refuse collections.”

On Saturday your Worcester News revealed the body, concealed in a green recycling bin, had come from one of four waste trucks operating in the city on Tuesday, August 26, including a round from St Peter’s.

DI Todd added: “We remain unsure as to what area the body came from – it could, for instance, have been deposited during a visit to Worcester – but we are anxious to speak to the mother as we believe she may still be in need of help, medically and emotionally.”

He urged people to think about women they knew to be recently pregnant but who are no longer expecting and not nursing a baby.

DI Todd explained: “Someone may have noticed such a situation, but has not yet realised that the matter is worth reporting to us.

“We would like to hear from anyone who has even the slightest idea about who the mother is and – equally importantly – where she is now.”
