IT has been a typical British summer with largely average temperatures and rainfall, says your Worcester News weatherman.

Paul Damari recorded the average daily maximum temperature in August in the city as 21.3C (70F) - 0.3C higher than the average, while the average night-time temperatures were 11.6C (53F) - 1.6C higher than normal.

“”The nights were warmer because we had cloud due to the unsettled weather,” said Mr Damari.

The rainfall in August was above average with 86.9mm (3.4ins) while the average is 70.2mm (2.8ins). “Other parts of the country have had it worse than us. It was very variable because of the stormy nature of the rain.

"We have 23 days when it rained in August. The rainfall has been spread out. and because of that many farmers are behind with their harvest.”

Mr Damari added that the amount of sunshine was down on average for August and on the whole it had been a dull month with many of the dry days being cloudy.

“I think for the whole summer the temperatures have been around average or slightly above, the rainfall has been slightly above average and the sunshine has been below. The Met Office prediction of an average typical summer has been right.”

Mr Damari forecasts a fairly autumnal week ahead with some cooler breezy weather coming in from the Atlantic. “There will be a mix of drier bright spells with sunshine alternating with rain or showers at times. The winds may pick up to gale force by the end of the week. The wettest day will be Friday but the mixed weather will continue into the weekend.”
