ALAN Bennett’s dark comedy Enjoy comes to Malvern Theatres next month.
Taking the lead in this rarely performed gem is Alison Steadman, well known for her iconic turn as Mrs Bennet in Andrew Davies’ 1995 Pride And Prejudice.
Written in 1980, Bennett set the play in his hometown of Leeds where an ageing couple are living in the city’s last back-to-back. With demolition imminent, Wilf and Connie are to be rehoused in a brand new maisonette, complete with a waste disposal unit and nonslip vinyl flooring. When a sociologist comes to observe them in their daily life, normality takes a decidedly unusual turn.
Enjoy runs from Monday, September 15 until Saturday, September 20. For tickets, priced £8 for under 25s and £17.50-£26.50, call 01684 892277 or go to malverntheatres.
