ABOVE is Worcestershire father and son duo who are gearing up for a triathlon-style endurance test to raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Paul Ella, aged 43, an IT professional, of The Grove, Stourport and son, Jonathan, 17, a pupil at Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre, are taking part in the annual Coniston Challenge in the Lake District on September 6.
They will be climbing up and down the famous Old Man of Coniston, kayaking 3km across Coniston Water and finally cycling 17km through the Grizedale Forest – all within 10 hours.
Paul said: “Jonathan is naturally fit and I’m just an old duffer. Whenever we are in training and I have wanted to give up he says, ‘Come on, dad’, and pushes me along.”
Jonathan is a member of Stourport Hockey Club and Stourport Cricket Club and also plays rugby, football and cricket for his school.
He said: “It is going to be a massive challenge and I am looking forward to giving it a go.
“When I heard dad talking about the event I thought it would be a good thing to do together and I could help him through it.
“I might be young and fit but it’s going to be a long, hard day. It’s for a good cause and I just want to help.”
The duo aim to raise £2,000. You can sponsor them by visiting justgiving.com/paulella.
