A WORCESTER-based DJ is swapping his headphones for a pair of running shoes this week as he prepares for a charity fun run.
Wyvern FM presenter Paul Ellery along with the radio station’s marketing manager Hayley Duce are undertaking an intensive training course at the Energy Health and Fitness gym in Sherriff Street, off Tolladine Road.
The pair are limbering up for the Noah’s Ark Trust Run to Remember which is taking place on Sunday, September 21.
The race involves participants taking part in one of three organised runs around the picturesque Worcester Countryside Centre in Wildwood Drive, which includes a 10km run, 5km run and a special 1km family fun run. Entrants can pick the distance they feel most comfortable with.
Mr Ellery said: “I’m taking on the 5km race so the training is much needed. I love the idea of a 1km family fun run, lots of people take the dogs for a walk on a Sunday so this is the perfect opportunity to get fit, spend time with loved ones and raise money for a great cause.”
But the pair will not only be running in the race, they also have been given the opportunity for two lucky listeners to win the prime race numbers zero and one live on their show from Monday, September 15.
Miss Duce said: “People have got to register for the race first to be in with the chance of winning the numbers. Hopefully, it will get our listeners to register for the race, which I’m sure will be a great day.”
Miss Duce added training was going well and she believed lots of people would also be able to do the run.
“It is a challenge because neither of us are very fit. But Energy Gym are being really good and have put together a plan for us to follow.”
The gym has put together training programmes for participants in the 5km and 10km races so people can have a comfortable run and get fit at the same time.
Last year the event attracted more than 400 entrants and raised almost £4,000 for the charity, which helps bereaved children and their families.
