A FORTNIGHT of events held to commemorate the Battle of Worcester have now swung into action.
To celebrate the anniversary of the battle, the last of the English Civil War, the Commandery has organised a number of activities to enjoy around the city.
Running until Wednesday, September 3, the events were officially opened by Mayor of Worcester Lucy Hodgson, who also formally started the period of public consultation on the designs for the proposed battlefield trail and the battlefield monument supported by the Battle of Worcester Society.
Mrs Hodgson said: “As mayor, I am reminded of our loyalty to the crown each time I look at my chain of office and see the words “faithful in war and peace”.”
Local sculptor and member of the society Ken Potts has produced an initial design for three panels for the battlefield trail, depicting scenes from the battle, and these are on display in the Great Hall of the Commandery for the public to see themselves.
Events also include a lecture about the Battle of Powick Bridge, the people’s perspective of the war and Cathedral tours. For details, contact 01905 361826.
