PART of the former BBC site at Wychbold, near Droitwich, is in line for a £2.5 million “green” makeover.

The Iguana Design Group plans to demolish the old buildings and replace them with a group of four Eco Green office pavilions.

“The new Eco Green offices will bring a substantial improvement to the appearance of the site and replace unattractive buildings that are no longer fit for purpose, as well as providing local economic benefit,” said Chris Murphy, Iguana’s managing director.

The old BBC storage depot, which lies next to the famous transmission masts, is currently used as the design group’s office and studios and Iguana would move into one of the new pavilions. The four pavilions would all be two storeys high, matching the scale of nearby houses, with each containing six units.

They would have large areas of glazing which will reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day. The glazing is set to be of high specification with low emissions to reduce heat loss. And the deep roof overhang and louvre screen would reduce glare and summer overheating.

“We anticipate the other pavilions will be let to small office-based businesses,” Mr Murphy said. “We hope to have the scheme completed in around two years.

“Our primary aim is to substantially improve the visual appearance of the site and create a development that will enhance the local environment and be an attractive and pleasant place for businesses and workers.”
