A SCHEME to help visitors find their way about Worcester and get information about tourist attractions could become a regular sight on the city’s streets.
Although many of the people approached by visitor information patrollers (VIPs) did not understand they were trying to help them get the best out of their visit to the Faithful City, VisitWorcester – which organises tourism, events and city centre management – believes the scheme can be a success.
We previously reported in your Worcester News how Anna Huber and Ellen Krebsbach, who are from Stuttgart, Germany, took up the challenge of becoming VIPs while on a work placement from Principia School of Language following inductions and orientation sessions of all of the city’s main attractions Adrian Field, of VisitWorcester, said: “We are now in the process of acting on the feedback and looking at ways in which we can develop the remit of the VIPs in the future. We found that bec-ause it is quite a novel concept people tended not to approach the VIPs.
“Instead, the VIPs had to approach tourists because there was a perception that they were trying to sell or sign-up visitors to something, rather than assist them with any queries they might have.
“The most popular request for them was to take photos by the river and also people asking for directions to tourist attractions and the shopping areas.”
