WHETHER you label it melodic metal or alternative rock, Expedestrian’s sound makes you sit up and listen.
“Yes, it is quite aggressive,” said drummer Joe Singh, speaking to your Worcester News days before the band launch their eagerly awaited debut album.
“It’s heavy and angry but there is always a lot of melody. It’s a combination.”
Expedestrian formed in 2005 with their sights set on being a recording – not performing – band.
Years of touring with other groups and trying hard to ‘make it’ had taken its toll on the members who found they had all reached the same point.
“We’d all been in various bands and had some success with that,”
said Singh.
“But we were both exhausted and deflated by the live scene.
“We did not want to do any more toilet tours. So we got together with the view to write and record.”
They did, however, succumb to playing live and, by all accounts, did pretty well, winning one Battle of the Band competition and coming runner-up in another.
But while they were playing, causing ripples throughout Worcestershire alternative rock scene, the studio album never materialised.
“It’s taken a long time,” said Singh.
“Probably more than three years in the making because of various set backs and changes to circumstances.”
Guitarist Dave Draper got a fulltime job at the ffg recording studios in Bredon, which meant the band moved and most of the recording process was repeated.
Mixing, rendering, choosing album artwork all takes time, but Audio Visual Aid is, at last, available.
The future is looking bright for Expedestrian.
“We’ve got a few contacts and we’re talking about doing a small tour of Germany,” said Singh.
“But for now we have the album, which we are all really proud of and for a lot of people it’s going to be worth the wait.”
Expedestrian will be playing at the Marr’s Bar tomorrow night as part of the Worcester Music Festival.
Their album will be released on August 29.
