TURNING a Pershore home into a veterinary surgery could cause traffic chaos, according to some residents.
Vets’ practice Bowler, Lewis and Partners has applied to change the use of 2 Station Road, Pershore, so they can expand their practice, which is currently run from Church Street.
However, Wychavon District Council has received more than 20 objections from people living in Station Road and nearby Mount Pleasant, and commuters who use the already busy road.
Heather Bowcott, of Station Road, said: “My main concern was possible traffic issues that was going to be a problem there.
“At peak times the traffic backs up as far as me, and my home is by the turning for Wyre Piddle.”
Mrs Bowcott said she was worried large lorries visiting with veterinary equipment or to remove dead animals could obstruct the road.
She added: “I appreciate it’s ideal to have a vet in the town for people who don’t have cars but I’m not quite sure whether that’s such a good spot.”
Julie Cross also wrote to object to the plan which she called “madness”.
She said: “Station Road is already congested during peak times at the traffic lights near to number 2 often resulting in anything up to a 10 or 15-minute delay getting out of Pershore.”
The Pershore Civic Society has also objected to the application, saying the move could cause gridlock on the road.
However, some people wrote to support the application, including John Constable, of Station Road, Pershore, who said: “I hope the application, succeeds because it is an excellent firm professionally and it deserves to expand.”
Planning officers are currently considering whether or not to allow the change of use to go ahead.
