PLANS are underway for the third annual Salt Day in Droitwich.
Organisers are currently finalising the event programme, which is designed to celebrate the town’s association with salt production.
A day of fun, entertainment and food is planned for Saturday, September 13.
The day will start at 9am with a fine food festival in Saltbarrow Market and a farmers’ and craft market, followed by the main Salt Festival at 11am.
One of the main attractions will be the Roman Army, Deva Victriz, which will be setting up camp in Vines Park.
Visitors can experience life as a Roman and children will have a chance to take part in mock battles.
There will be regular demonstrations, advice on healthy eating and plenty of opportunity to sample local foods.
Victoria Square will be transformed back to the 1940s with displays, vehicles, music and re-enactors, while the Heritage Centre will play host to a wedding and show salt displays.
There will also be plenty to entertain children including giant puppets, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painting, rides and a Salt Day quiz.
Music and dance performances will be taking place at various venues, including Vines Park.
Other attractions include community stalls, marching bands, canal boat trips and canoes.
The day will finish at 4.30pm with the popular duck race in Vines Park.
Droitwich Spa’s area partnership manager for Wychavon District Council, Janet Yates, said: “Salt Day has become well established in the annual events calendar and is now a major event for the town.
“It is very much an event for the community and an opportunity for local groups to get involved and show others what they do.
She urged any groups, especially those involved with young people, or volunteers to contact her on 01386 565355 or by emailing janetyates@wychavon.gov.uk
