A PICTURE-postcard hamlet on the outskirts of Droitwich could receive further protection under a conservation review.

Uphampton, which hosts an annual charity open garden event, could have a conservation boundary that has been in place since 1975 extended to include areas of special architectural and historic interest that are currently excluded.

Members of Wychavon District Council’s development control committee are set to be informed of the review today.

Residents will be consulted on possible boundary changes if the committee agrees for the review to be taken forward.

The conservation area review looks at whether the existing boundaries are still relevant. Proposed changes also include extending the boundary to include places where it currently appears to take a line through property.

Conservative ward councillor Jean Dowty said: “This is a good appraisal and important for Uphampton. It proposes to extend the boundaries and bring things in that should have been in a long time ago.

“It needed reviewing. It is a very beautiful place with lovely views, just like the countryside should be.”
