REDHILL Ladies Choir led by Nellie Bateman gave their concert in St John’s Church for the Worcester Festival in the presence of the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Lucy Hodgson.
We were reminded of many songs we all know interspersed with vocal solos and instrumental items. The evening began in typical fashion with unison arrangements of Another Opening, Another Show, followed by It’s a Grand Night for Singing.
Other songs included I Believe, I’ve Never Been in Love Before and The Merry Widow Waltz.
Some of the solos were Pat Turner: Don’t Be Cross, Sheila Wainwright: Hello Young Lovers, Nellie Bateman: Climb Every Mountain, Brian Daniels: The Cobbler’s Song and Ruth Jeffries: A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.
Pat and Brian joined forces for the humorous duet I Remember It Well.
David Whitehouse, the accompanying pianist, was a great support. He provided lots of flourishes, especially in Jan Secular’s solo The Wonder of You.
Instrumental soloists included Jon Talbot, first with his accordion in Over the Waves and later with his clarinet.
John Renney showed his expertise as a fine organist in his delivery of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor with much varied dynamic specification and pedal interest.
The concluding songs Count Your Blessings and Bless This House and You’ll Never Walk Alone rounded off the event.
