AN opportunist thief who admitted stealing a police uniform and impersonating a constable will be sentenced next month.

Kevin Gill, 20, of Worcester, admitted a total of 15 charges at Worcester Magistrates.

Three of the charges stem from Gill’s theft of a bag containing a police uniform and equipment from an unlocked police van on Friday, July 18.

The following day he was spotted wearing the high-visibility jacket and together with a friend stopped and searched a member of the public.

Gill, of Norfolk Close, Warndon, had already pleaded guilty to the theft, impersonating a police constable and possessing a police uniform at an earlier hearing but the matters were adjourned to tie in with other outstanding offences.

He has already admitted various other charges including breaching an anti-social behaviour order, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, theft, and assault of a police officer.

At the latest hearing, Gill pleaded guilty to assault, witness intimidation, and two separate charges of breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

He also changed his plea to guilty for a racially aggravated charge of using words causing harassment, alarm and distress, after denying the offence at an earlier court appearance.

District Judge Bruce Morgan sent Gill to Worcester Crown Court where he will appear for sentencing on Friday, September 12.
