A LIFETIME’s work by a late local artist will be exhibited and sold next month to raise money for charity.

Arthur Lewis, who died last year, was a keen amateur artist who was dedicated to celebrating the wonder of nature through his watercolours.

The exhibition will take place at Number 8 Community Arts Centre, Pershore, in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.

Mr Lewis’s widow, Doreen, from Droitwich, said her husband started painting after buying a sketch pad on holiday in Wales.

“He never looked back after that,” she said.

“He particularly loved painting the Malverns and other landscapes. I know Richard would have been delighted to know his paintings are raising money towards the wonderful work of St Richard’s.”

The exhibition has been put together by family friend Tony Yeo. He said: “It was Arthur’s passionate love of the natural world which he wanted to share with the rest of us.

“He saw possibilities for pictures everywhere but especially in the countryside where for him the scope was enormous and the quest for a suitable subject was endless.”

The exhibition will run from Friday, September 12 to Tuesday, September 30.

A preview evening will take place on Thursday, September 11.
