A GYM in Worcester is offering to help athletes young and old who want to limber up for a special charity run.
Staff at the Energy Health and Fitness gym in Sherriff Street, off Tolladine Road, have put together a training programme for people taking part in next month’s Run to Remember.
The event, held by children’s bereavement charity the Noah’s Ark Trust, has been split into three sections – a 10km run, 5km run and a special 1km family fun run so entrants can pick the distance they feel most comfortable with. To help runners of all abilities prepare for the 10k and 5k events, staff have put together the training programme so they can have a comfortable run and also get fit at the same time. Rhiannon Bailey, fitness manager at the gym said: “The training programmes make it really easy for you to follow the training and we hope we will get lots of people taking an interest in it.
“It is available on the Noah’s Ark website and also if they want to come and see us at the gym we can give them a copy,” she added.
The gym is also offering a free stretch session to teach people how to warm down properly after running, which can be booked with one of their instructors.
Intermediate runners, able to run between four and six miles comfortably, are also able to join a running group for free every Tuesday at 6.30pm. The sessions will be available in the run-up to the event, which is being held at the Worcester Countryside Centre in Wildwood Drive on Sunday, September 21.
Miss Bailey added: “We’re doing the Run to Remember because we think it’s important to support a charity that does such important work.”
Hayley Fowler, marketing and communications co-ordinator for the trust, added: “We are really pleased that Energy Gym is supporting us in so many fantastic ways.
The Run to Remember is one of our main events for the year and we hope that the local community will support us and come along and join in.”
Last year, the event attracted more than 400 entrants and raised almost £4,000 for the charity, which helps bereaved children and their families.
