THE barbarians are now truly at the gates if a recent incident at Worcester Cathedral is to go by.

My youngest daughter and I had decided to make a round trip by calling in at the Commandery, walking along the canal to join the river, and then visiting Wulstan’s great church.

While strolling around the building, I suddenly became aware of noise emanating from the north entrance. I could hear shouting, swearing and the sound of a radio, so I walked over.

It soon became apparent that a group of teenagers had taken shelter from the rain. Their behaviour was utterly appalling, and to my dismay, I noticed that a group of adults sat opposite were meekly looking away.

Pretty ironic, bearing in mind the moral of the Good Samaritan story, yes?

Anyway, I briefly toyed with the idea of making a lone stand. But then I saw cathedral staff also seemingly doing nothing… or maybe they had done something.

So I also walked past. I knew that if I’d made a comment then only the following consequences were likely – that I’d either get mouthfuls of abuse, possibly violence, or that I’d be arrested by the police and charged with being rude to yobs.

I couldn’t risk any of those.

Schools are now churning out rubbish like this by the cartload.

These feral children are instructed in all faiths yet gain knowledge about none.

The future grows worse by the minute
