WILLIAM Shakespeare was at the height of his creative powers when he devised his classic lovers’ duel and this new company more than does it justice.

Amanda and Steve Quick appear to be acutely aware that the Bard was high in the literary heavens when he lit the touch paper that would ignite the explosive relationship of Beatrice and Benedick.

Quick’s will o’ wisp persona is admirably suited to the Lord of Padua role and he more than meets his match with Kelley Costigan’s waspish Beatrice. She turns in some sterling work, shrewish yet blessed with more brains than all the men put together. There was also the right degree of sexual tension between Josh Raven’s foppish Claudio and Francesca Weaver’s coquettish Hero.

Theatre 910 is an extremely young company yet they have tackled their first Greyfriars outing with strength and confidence.

The cast seems to have a collective consciousness, effortlessly moving from high drama to comic relief and then back again in the blink of an eyelid.

But most of all, there is ample evidence that these travelling players enjoy and revel in the language – and no one should expect more than that.
