TELEVISION presenter James May visited Worcester’s beer festival yesterday with his colleague Oz Clarke.
The two were at the festival to film a new series of Oz and James’ Big Adventure, which will now feature beer, gin and tea as well as wine.
Mr May spoke to your Worcester News about beer, cars and Worcester.
“It has been smashing visiting Worcester, which is full of nice people,” he said.
He arrived at Pitchcroft Racecourse yesterday morning driving a Rolls Royce that was towing a small caravan.
He commented on Worcester’s one-way system, saying it was antiquated and a reflection of 1960s town planning.
“Let cars go in two directions,” he said.
The co-presenter of Top Gear said he had entered his own beer in the festival made from ingredients across the country and brewed in his caravan.
After fermenting the beer, called Sprite, after the model of caravan, it was bottled in Worcestershire.
“The big challenge is to get interesting, flavoursome beers into pubs before real beer dies because I feel it is under quite serious threat from lager,” Mr May said.
After eating a Cornish pasty, signing autographs and having a look around the beer tent, Mr May left and headed to Hereford.
Festival organiser Bill Ottaway said: “Attendance figures are up on the last festival and we have a lot of people in here already. It has been a great day.”
