THIS group of intrepid men are set to dust off their walking boots today and embark on a gruelling 80-mile charity trek.

The team of seven have already raised almost £4,000 for the city’s Acorns Children’s Hospice over the last two years.

Last August they walked coast to coast along the length of Hadrian’s Wall and in 2006 they completed the Three Peaks Challenge in which they had to climb the three highest mountains in the UK within just 24 hours.

However, this year the group have decided to take on their biggest challenge yet.

They plan to walk the length of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset which, due to its steep ascents and descents, is the equivalent of climbing Mount Snowdon four times over.

Trek organiser Luke Simons, aged 30, of Blanquettes Avenue, Barbourne, said he was really excited to be raising even more money for the children’s hospice in Bath Road.

“I have seen the work they do in the hospices and it’s incredible and very moving.

“The strain on our legs is nothing compared to the courage needed by youngsters coping with terminal illnesses.

“We’re aiming to smash previous records this year, raising even more for Acorns.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice, based in Bath Road, cares for life-limited children and their families.
