STEPHANIE Cole performs at the Malvern Theatres this month in comedy Born in the Gardens.
Peter Nichols’s play, originally commissioned to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Bristol Old Vic, tells the story of eccentric mother and son, Maud and Mo.
They share a penchant for bizarre cocktails, tinned food and keeping the past alive.
However, when Mo’s brother and sister come home for their father’s funeral, comfortable living in the decaying mock-Tudor house is rudely interrupted.
Critics say Cole, who previously starred in Nichols’s So Long Life, lends a “bemused innocence” to Maud.
With bags of stage experience – including roles in A Passionate Woman, Quartet, Blithe Spirit and Noises Off, Cole is also well known for her numerous television roles.
In 1992, she won Best Actress at the British Comedy Awards for the show Waiting For God.
Co-star Simon Shepherd’s credits include ITV’s Peak Practice, the West End productions of The Secret Rapture and Art and the Bristol Old Vic production of Betrayal.
Born in the Gardens runs from Monday, August 25.
For tickets, priced £8 for under 25s and £17.50 – £26.50, call the Malvern box office on 01684 892277.
