TWENTY years ago a band of singers paid tribute to prolific American songwriter Irving Berlin.
They held a one-off concert at Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall, performing Berlin’s most popular numbers – from Let’s Face The Music And Dance and Cheek To Cheek, to Puttin' On The Ritz and White Christmas. Considering that Berlin penned more than 3,000 songs, they had plenty of material to chose from.
Two decades on and the group, Vocal Score, continue to celebrate light music and, tomorrow night, return to the hall for their Worcester Festival concert.
The show, entitled Thank You For The Music, will feature popular tunes written by Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Beatles.
Vocal Score have more than 100 songs in their repertoire, ranging from popular American standards of the 1920s to modern chart toppers. That initial concert proved so popular they have since performed in venues throughout Worcestershire, as well occasionally venturing into Wales and the rest of the West Midlands. Each concert raises money for charity. Profits from this show, sponsored by Connells estate agents, will go to Worcester Live.
