A PERSHORE allotment is among hundreds opening its doors to the public as part of National Allotments Week.

To help celebrate the heritage of allotment culture in Britain, the Pershore Allotment Association (PAA) has organised an open day on Nogains Road/Defford Road on Saturday.

There is plenty of entertainment planned for the afternoon including face painting, games and competitions, along with a wide selection of locally made produce and plenty of advice on gardening and composting. A number of tours of the allotment site are also planned.

Meg Hearne, secretary of the PAA, said: “The open day is all about getting the family together, with something for everyone.

“It’s really important to get the younger generation involved as we have a responsibility to make sure allotments are still around for them, and for their children. Plus, we want to show that even in today’s busy world it is possible to enjoy tasty, home-grown food that can save you pounds off your supermarket bill.”

The open day will begin at 11am with the last site tour scheduled for 2.30pm. Food will be served from midday and all competition results announced at 2pm.
