THE hunt is still on for brave teddy bears to take part in the first ever zipwire races at Pershore Abbey later this month.

Two bears, called Abby and Perce Shore, have already signed up but organisers are expecting hundreds more to slide down wires outside the 150ft tower or parachute from the mid-air bellringing platform inside the tower.

The event is part of the Plum Fayre on Monday, August 25, when the town will also be alive with musicians, a farmers’ market, boat rides on the river, displays and gardening talks.

Children can take part in craftwork and music at the Abbey, while there will be a bouncy castle and go-kart racing in the Vicarage garden.

Rolls Royce cars will be among a classic car display and an aeroplane will also be on show.

Organiser Colin Reeves said: “Bears on parachutes were so successful in previous years, we wanted to build on the fun.

“Now the Abbey team are looking for clubs, pubs, schools or families to enter a team of five bears to race against rivals.

“Donations to the Abbey funds will be £9 per team or £2 for one teddy.”
