THERE is a great squad spirit at Worcester City at the moment.

We had a long trip to Bognor Regis at the weekend and we were under a fair bit of pressure early on in the match and didn’t get out of our own half.

Once we got into the pace of the game, I think we dominated for long periods so I was very pleased.

I was a bit upset how we conceded the goal for their equaliser but after that, scoring in injury-time, it was a great result.

It would have been a bit quiet on the bus on the way back with a 1-1 draw, which wouldn’t have been a bad result, but the bus was buzzing having won it, the atmosphere with the players was great.

I think that showed a lot on Monday against St Albans City when we were under pressure in the first 10 or 15 minutes from a good passing side with a lot of good players. I think the camaraderie in the team got us a clean sheet.

It’s a small squad and luckily we have only had one suspension and injury and if we can keep it like that we will win more games.

There was a lot of talk about the first home game of the season being massive for our fans and that if they didn’t like what they saw they wouldn’t come back.

We are hoping we can keep some of the fans who turned up, build on it and go from strength to strength.

Marco Adaggio and Matt Dinsmore, who scored the goals against St Albans, are the ones who will get the crowd going and the fans will sing their names all season.

They are flair players but they will also work hard, win the ball from the full-backs and set play up.

Marco is not just a box player, the cross he put in for Matt’s goal was unbelievable. You can see he knows how to play the game and when to run and that’s great for me because I won’t have to do too much coaching. He’s a breath of fresh air.

However, Jon Richardson and Ollie Barnes are just as important, if not more important, in defence but the fans won’t be singing their names half as much because that’s how football is.

I think if we can keep Jon and Ollie fit it will be a big factor. They read the game very well and you can see it rubbing off on Shabir Khan as he’s grown in confidence.

It’s important we don’t conceded as many goals as we did last season. Somewhere down the line we will leave a few gaps because we like to attack but one goal conceded in two games is not a bad return.

As the season goes on everybody in the squad will play a big part. I would like to think the players we have got now will be fighting for places. I am pretty certain they won’t sulk if they are not playing.

Dave Bampton has only played a few minutes but the up side to that is we have got Gary Walker, Sam Tyack and Jordan Fitzpatrick. It just proves we have got a strong depth in the squad, with less players, who can all do a job.
