A STUDY to identify key views to and from the Malvern Hills, which could be used when new developments are being considered by planning authorities, is being backed in principle by Malvern Hills Conservators.

The Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) wants to commission a study to identify key views to and from the hills to be used when authorities consider new developments in the area.

Manager of the AONB Paul Esrich told the conservators land management committee that increased housing, the use of polytunnels in agriculture and renewable energy crops and wind turbines could all impact upon the hills and surrounding areas in the coming years.

The conservators have a responsibility to protect the views of the hills and commons from adverse development.

Conservators director Ian Rowat said the committee supported this approach in principle but it was in the early stages and the AONB had not yet discussed with the planning authority whether the study would be used when considering new developments.
