POLICE and neighbourhood watch organisations in south Worcestershire are promoting an exciting new property marking system they say will deter thieves from stealing your property.

SmartWater is an irremovable liquid – invisible when dry – which can be used to identify stolen property because each individual batch is forensically unique.

Hundreds of packs have already been distributed across the region to vulnerable people and those who have experienced crime.

The product comes in two forms – as a high-tech property marking system, or as spray that activates and covers thieves in a irremovable liquid. PC John McLaren, SmartWater lead for south Worcestershire, said: “It’s great news that more and more people are realising the great benefits of SmartWater and protecting themselves against would-be thieves.

“Although crime is low in south Worcestershire, we hope by people marking everything from a JCB to a diamond ring with the irremovable liquid, it will ensure it stays that way.”

Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators around south Worcestershire are distributing SmartWater.

When 10 packs are bought in a particular street or road a free street sign warning thieves that the area is protected will be provided.

Jeremy Thomas, chairman of West Mercia Neighbourhood Watch Forum and Wychavon Neighbourhood Watch, said: “Neighbourhood Watch is thrilled to get behind SmartWater and work with police in ensuring as many people as possible know about it and use it.”

Your £20 SmartWater pack will contain: A bottle of SmartWater, complete with applicator, which will mark up to 100 items.

A key fob ultra violet light to identify marked property.

Several warning stickers to deter thieves from even considering your house.
