MORE than 1,000 Wychavon residents have visited waste and recycling roadshows to find out more about a new wheelie bin scheme set to start in the area soon.
Councillors and council officers answered questions and provided advice on the new waste and recycling scheme which will kick off on Monday, September 29.
Phase one includes the wards of Hartlebury; Ombersley; Lovett and North Claines ward with the exception of Westwood parish; Dodderhill; Bowbrook; Upton Snodsbury; Norton and Whittington.
Also in the first phase are Inkberrow ward with the exception of Cookhill; Abbots Morton; Rous Lench; Abberton and Church Lench parishes; Drakes Broughton; and Pinvin.
People living in those areas should soon receive information through the post enabling them to apply for exceptions, request larger or smaller bins or ask for assisted collections.
Applications must be returned by Friday, August 22.
Phil Merrick, Wychavon’s head of community services, said: “Residents have lots of questions about the new scheme and we’re here to provide information on how the new system will work.
“Feedback has largely been positive, but we’re keen to know things like preferences on bin size before the scheme starts.”
Phase two of the scheme will be rolled out next year to all Droitwich wards; Pershore; Eckington, Bredon; South Bredon Hill; Fladbury; Elmley Castle and Somerville; all Evesham wards; Broadway and Wickhamford; Badsey; Bretforton and Offenham; The Littletons; Honeybourne and Pebworth; Harvington and Norton.
The parishes of Westwood, Cookhill, Abbots Morton, Rous Lench, Abberton and Church Lench will also be included in phase two.
