ON a cloudy July day members of the guild set off for their summer outing to Shrewsbury. For most of the day the weather was kind and we only had a few showers.
Some members decided that a cultural day was for them and visited the abbey, castle and regimental museum, while others visited the beautiful Dingle gardens.
The floral decorations around Shrewsbury were lovely, especially in the grounds of the castle where there were hundreds of bedding begonias. Percy Thrower used to be the superintendent of parks and gardens before he died and the town has certainly kept up the tradition he started. Needless to say the shops attracted the majority of members, particularly Marks & Spencer who happened to have started their sale.
Shrewsbury made for an interesting day’s outing.
The next meeting will be on August 21 at 10am when the speaker will be Michael Butler. His subject will be No, Mrs Worthington. Visitors are most welcome.
