THE decision not to reopen a council-run swimming pool in Hereford has been called in for scrutiny.

Your Worcester News previously reported how Herefordshire Council’s cabinet decided it was not viable to reopen the swimming pool at St Martin’s but provide lessons for youngsters at Hereford Leisure Pool instead.

However, three councillors from three different parties have called the decision in because they want clarity on the financial figures and think there has been a lack of in-depth risk assessment on the advantages and disadvantages of closing the pool.

They also want to know why the council pool was allowed to deteriorate so much and will ask what procedures are to be put in place to ensure children are separated from the general public in the pools and changing rooms when they use the leisure facility.

All of these issues will be considered by members of the council’s children’s services scrutiny committee at a date to be confirmed.
