A MAN has admitted outraging public decency after committing an obscene act in an alleyway.

Damian Philips was caught playing with himself on CCTV cameras in Black Horse Walk, Lowesmoor, Worcester.

Philips, 23, of Chedworth Drive, Warndon, Worcester, was seen committing the act at around 2am on Friday, July 25.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said: "He admitted the offence and could not give a reason other than that he was intoxicated.

"He agreed it was unacceptable and indecent behaviour and that any member of the public could have walked past.”

Emily Smith, defending, said Philips suffered from severe depression and had not worked for three to four years which had led to him taking anti-depressants.

She said: “He spends his time playing computer games and watching television.

"It’s difficult for him to gain employment because of his depression.

"He left school with no qualifications which has also made it difficult for him to gain paid employment.

“He deeply regrets his actions and is remorseful for what he has done. He has co-operated fully with police and pleaded guilty at the earliest available opportunity.”

She added that he was someone who needed the support of the court and help to find work.

Philips had been drinking all day when he was spotted by the CCTV crew.

He has a previous conviction for a sexual offence which dates back to 2000 for which he was placed under a supervision order by the court.

The case was adjourned until Friday, September 5 for the probation service to prepare an all-options pre-sentence report.

His only bail condition was that he co-operates with the probation service during the preparation of the report.
