JEWELLERY thieves broke into a Worcester home and took items including a wedding ring before escaping on a stolen mobility scooter.

Police said a number of very personal items of jewellery were taken - along with the blue Legionnaire Delta mobility scooter - from a property in Langdale Close, Warndon, sometime between 9.30pm on Wednesday and 7am on Thursday.

The scooter was later found abandoned in a nearby alleyway, but the distinctive jewellery remains missing.

A police spokesman said: “Some of the items taken from this property were personal to the owner, but the scooter is vital.

"Luckily the scooter has now been recovered and returned - but property is still outstanding.

“The jewellery is very distinctive, and we hope that anyone who knows the whereabouts of it will contact police immediately.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area - including anyone with a mobility scooter - between the times given.”

Police said the offender or offenders stole a gold-coloured watch engraved with the words ‘T.H. Walsh on your retirement’, an 18-inch silver chain with a one-inch silver gondola charm and a half-inch silver scarab beetle charm, a gold-coloured band wedding ring and a key ring with keys.

The keys were used to enter the outside shed, from which the mobility scooter was taken. It was later discovered in an alleyway between Langdale Avenue and Borrowdale Drive.

Police said the value of the items remains unknown at this time.
