THE director of Worcester Wolves, Mick Donovan, is stepping down from his post to take on a new challenge at the University of Worcester.
Under his guidance the Worcester Wolves have slam dunked their way to massive success and now compete in the British Basketball League, the UK’S top flight division. He has also helped to establish a highly successful university team, which has won the British Universities Championship three times.
Mr Donovan is leaving the Wolves to begin a new job as the Head of Sport and Exercise Science at the university.
A spokesman at the university said Mr Donovan was well-known in his field for his “innovative and ground-breaking” methods which aim to encourage learning and development through sporting achievement.
“He was integral in initiating a basketball scholarship scheme at the university which enabled students that could have otherwise dropped out of education to continue their studies while playing for the Worcester Wolves,” they added.
Mr Donovan said he was thrilled by the possibilities his new role will offer him. “The aim will be to enhance the knowledge and understanding of our students so they can continue to make a meaningful contribution to society at all levels,” he said.
“I feel proud and very excited to be taking on the new challenges ahead.”
Mr Donovan, who will stay on at the Wolves in an advisory capacity, will begin his new role in September.
