AN ADVENTUROUS woman on an epic journey across Britain made a stop in Worcester where she met city walkers.

Carol Pollock stopped in the city during her trek from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall.

Last year she walked from Lands End to John O’Groats so now she is completing the journey in reverse to raise awareness of Walking the Way to Health initiative (WHI).

Her 14-year-old daughter Sophie died at Scarborough Hospital of a brain tumour in February last year.

During her treatment, Sophie talked about raising money to help other children suffering from the same illness.

Together, Mrs Pollock and Sophie planned the sponsored walk for when she recovered.

Sadly that never happened, but Mrs Pollock kept her daughter's wish and, on what would have been Sophie’s 15th birthday in April 2007, Mrs Pollock began the first 1,100- mile journey.

Now the second is under way.

She met Peter Stevens, one of the walk leaders of the Pitchcroft Pacers, as she stopped for a brief respite at the Environment Centre in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, Worcester on Friday, August 1.

Mr Stevens said: “What she has achieved is quite tremendous – especially as she has done it not once but twice.”

WHI aims to promote healthy walking and tackle obesity across the UK.
