Iwent to the pantomime this week. (Oh yes I did.) I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was Kays Theatre Group at the Swan. I’m sure I told you I went last year, but I was invited again – not sure why.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears was the alleged story, and my old mate Tony Fisher in it as Dame Donna Kebab was superb, although I have to say the whole show was excellent.
It was all done by volunteers but to be honest it was better than some of the so-called professional pantos I’ve seen in the past.
As I said this time last year, explaining panto to a Russian or Chinese would be very interesting.
No sport last week, but there’s a bit this week, and a big game at Sixways tomorrow, with Bristol and John Brain in opposition.
This will be John’s first return to Worcester since he left last spring, and I’m sure he will get a great reception from the Warriors fans.
Without going into events of last year, I have great respect for John, and found him to be a very down-to-earth and straight-talking character. I know he will find it hard to go back, but I for one will wish him well – but maybe not result-wise tomorrow.
Having said that, his successor Mike Ruddock is also a very genial character and I am sure he will get Worcester romping up the table.
What a mess at New Road again, and I do feel sorry for all the folk who work there and have to clear up. They are used to it by now, and it is a winter flood which we should expect, but it’s hanging around this time, and can’t do the ground any good.
Let’s hope for more sunny days and the river going back to where it should be.
We have our Christmas party in the Barmaid’s Bosum tonight, January 25 – honest, we do.
A couple of years ago, someone insulted our landlord, known as Arfur, as he always pulls Arfur pint instead of a full one.
Someone told him everything he did was a month behind everyone else, like the prices went up a month after they should have done and the crisps were a month out of date and the like, so he now insists on having Christmas a month late.
We love it as we get a second bash at the turkey sandwiches and sausage rolls,
I have been asked by a few people to reveal the location of the Barmaid’s Bosom. Free food tonight, are you having a laugh?
