Well, we saw the new year in... in style, I have to say, as we had a murder mystery evening.
Have you ever been to one? Great fun, but to be honest I did not have a clue who had done it, and none of us got the murderer right.
New Year’s Day up bright and early – not really – and looking for a bit of fresh air popped down to watch Pershore Town playing back on their home ground.
Well, they’ve been playing there for a while after the floods wrecked the clubhouse and changing rooms, but it’s now all back up and running and looks really good.
Well done to everyone at the Pers for getting it all up and running again; always a friendly club, I find, and thanks to ‘Gilly’ for the tea.
I do have to say one slightly off- putting moment which didn’t involve anyone from Pershore. A couple of so-called supporters from the the other team decided to throw some abuse at the one linesman.
Now, in football you always get the remarks from the crowd, doubting eyesight and parentage and the like, but the comments from these two were, in my opinion, out of order, and of a very personal nature.
Full marks to some of the officials of the visiting team who told them to shut up.
This comes after the comments of Sol Campbell of Portsmouth about the levels of abuse directed at him. Indeed, the Pompey boss Harry Redknapp was not happy with the abuse he received at Aston Villa recently.
I do have to say it is most unusual at non-league football, but where else in society can you direct such comments at someone and get away with it?
Anyway, Pershore won 4-1 and it was a pleasure to be there and see some old chums.
I got the long straw, as it were on Sunday – off to Newcastle for the rugby, and working this time.
Not too much to say about last Saturday... so I won’t.
Except perhaps to say well done to the Warriors’ faithful supporters, who stayed behind the team until the end, in a not very good display.
Big well done to the grandads who are cycling to Newcastle from Sixways in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice. Now that is a long bike ride.
I find when I go out on the bike there are three bits of the body that get sore – and two of them are the knees!
Talking of exercise, as you may know I do try to do the odd bit of jogging, mainly round Pitchcroft, and blimey it was bit cold this week. Thursday morning there was a brass monkey wandering round there looking for a welder.
