It’s my birthday today.
Now I thought I would tell you that as you might want to wish me happy birthday, although the chances of meeting everyone who reads this is a bit thin, unlike myself.
It’s funny, but when you are a nipper it seems a long time until your birthday or Christmas, but as you get older they seem to come round more often.
I wish we could stop the clock sometimes.
At least with a birthday in the middle of the year it breaks it up.
I always felt sorry for people who had their birthdays at Christmas.
I’m a bit shattered this week after some exceptional physical exercise last Friday when I helped my grandson, Joshua George, to move to God’s county.
His mom and dad moved with him as well, and despite the fact they only lived in a small house it’s amazing how much stuff we loaded on to the lorry, and then loaded back off again.
But they are safely installed and good to have them here as it means a much shorter journey to see the little chap.
He got his first taste of cricket last week when he nipped into New Road and he told me it’s the best live sport he’s ever seen. Well, he’s only four months old so it’s the only live sport he’s seen, I guess.
A couple of things to catch up on.
I told you I bumped into Clive John in Leeds – well, his new album is out, called Time.
It’s very good, the title track is excellent and there’s a super version of the old I Hope You Dance. Go to www.clivejohn.com for the details.
Last Sunday, Old Elizabethans Presidents Eleven played against Ray Julien’s team and a fun day it was, some good cricket, excellent food, and a lot of mickey-taking.
Well done to all and Acorns will benefit from the proceeds.
I’m at Edgbaston for the cricket and thanks to Jean and Pat for the donation of a lovely cake for the media boys this week.
As we do share our spoils, all cakes are welcome.
I’m off to Durham for a wedding this weekend, and we tried about 10 hotels to book rooms near Chester-Le-Street, when we suddenly realised there was a test match on there.
And I’m supposed to be a sports reporter and cricket commentator.
Ah well, another slice of cake anyone?
