Another bank holiday weekend is upon us. Bank Holidays really have become a truly british tradition just like the wet weather we associate with them! Yet we have a dilema every time we have a holiday period, the FRIENDS or FAMILY dilema....

With the way modern society is our traditional steriotypical 'family unit' is no more the norm. People have their own reasons for choosing their personal circumstances ie many more young 20-30 somethings are choosing to live alone; single parent families (mostly not through their own choice) are more and more common and there no longer exists a stigma attached with this 'label' and rightly so; many people are also choosing to stop with parents to a much older age than they would have done 20 years ago which is partly due to the crippling cost of houses/ mortgages....but each holiday time we all have to make a choice - do we visit our family or friends?

In a way our new 'family' is likely to be a much extended one encompassing close knit friends, immediate family and distant 'only see at xmas / funerals/ weddings' relatives. So the choice of "do we go and see Aunty Joyce and her family" or spend the time with friends is not such a black and white decision. Many people now go on holiday with groups of friends, this may just be an extension of the mind set that became established in the 1980's with holiday companies targetting groups of friends ie 18-30's etc it became commonplace to go on holiday with friends rather than your parents.

So what are you doing this weekend? We are hoping to go to the dog rescue centre to give a homeless dog the chance of a new life in a loving family. So whether you are packing the caravan up for the long treck down the M5 to cornwall for a soaking (ive seen the weather forecast!) or planning to visit your mum / dad/ children have a good time and enjoy the time you have with them.
